Miniature Railways - Colin Peake's Photographs

A sunny couple of days at the coast found us in Cleethorpes on 9th/10th August. Sutton Flyer and #24 were in service on both days with a half-hourly two-train service.

At Lakeside station it was possible to finally take a half-decent picture of ex-Bush Mill DA1 and also take a closer look at the ex-Jacot railway brakevan owned by Andrew Neale and now vased here. In the museum shed was the 0-4-0 'Katie' replica awaiting completion.

At North Sea Lane progress was being made on the new station building, a converted Portacabin, which is being rebuilt internally and clad externally to look like a traditional railway building. Progress was rapid over the two days we were there, as seen in the two pictures. The building should be completed in a couple of weeks, certainly in time for the September Models & Steam gala.

September 8th/9th should see visiting locos from the Kirklees Light Railway, Windmill Farm and Sherwood Forest Railways. Model railways will include my own O9 layout 'Shifting Sands', a seaside miniature railway not dissimilar to the CCLR!

The views from North Sea Lane on a clear day are stunning, the view over to Spurn Point was familiar, but the view south to Tetney was new to me, I've included a high-res version of this as compressed it looks like nothing! Click on 'full-size' to get the larger image.

UPDATE 25/08/07: A Further visit on 24th August found Sutton Flyer and Sutton Belle in charge, and very visual progress made at North Sea Lane station.

UPDATE 24/02/08: The station building at North Sea Lane is seen completed, with the addition of a generator room disguised as a signal box.
