A Visit To Scarborough

Saturday 24th May saw the opening of the latest development at Scarborough's North Bay Railway, 'The Glass House' is a cafe/bistro situated alongside the new station building at Peasholme Park station. This buiding is an imaginative rebuild of one of the former shelters in Northstead Manor Gardens.

Arriving early at Peasholme we greeted with a promised locomotive line-up of the NBR's three Hudswell Clarke 4-6-2 diesel hydraulic locomotives 'Neptune', 'Triton' and 'Poseidon' outside the shed. 'Robin Hood', the 4-6-4 DH tank loco was sadly not in traffic as it is awaiting return of it's wheels from turning.

After the line-up we proceded to The Glass House for the formal opening by the Mayor of Scarborough, who was then treated to a trip up the line behind Poseidon. At Scalby Mills David Humphreys of the NBR Co explained some of the railway's future plans for deveopments to further enhance this attractive railway.

The rest of the day was spent travelling on the railway and doing some lineside photography, which enabled me to get some pictures in locations that had previously eluded me! Tohis was also my first chance to see some of the other recent developments since my August 2007 trip, including the two newly rebuilt enclosed coaches and the new station building at Peasholme Park, all equally impressive!
