Cleethorpes: Sutton Gala and Museum Launch

An annual fixture in the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway calendar is the 'Sutton Collection' gala, starring the locomotives and stock of the former Sutton Miniature Railway. This year the event was combined with the annual model railway event in the Griffin Hall building on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September.

Another change from the ordinary was the launch of the Miniature Railway Museum Trust, with the event marked by the dedication of new interpretation boards on the history of the Sutton Collection by former SMR driver John Tidmarsh and Trust Chairman David Humphreys. Visiting from Ravenglass for the weekend was 'Synolda' from Ravenglass, a staging move between Eaton Hall and Kirklees Galas. Sadly 'Red Dragon', also due to visit, was unable to attend due to repairs under way at Windmill Farm.

Saturday was, to hark back to the 1980s, wet, wet,wet. Sunday however was a lot brighter and photographer friendly, which is when the majority of these pictures were taken. Synolda and Sutton Flyer provided an interesting contrast in the first Greenly class 30 design and perhaps the ultimate 'evolved' version from 1952....
