Over the weekend of 20th and 21st June 2009 the 15" gauge Evesham Vale Light Railway held it's 'intensive running' weekend, with four locos in steam.

We had been planning to visit the EVLR at some point this year anyway, but this seemed to be an opportunity too good to miss, the EVLR fleet includes several historical and diverse locomotive types and to see most of them in steam together would kill several birs with one stone.

In steam were:

- Barnes 4-4-2 'John' (ex-Rhyl)
- Bassett-Lowke 4-4-2 'Count Louis' (ex-Fairbourne)
- Exmoor 0-4-0T+T 'St Egwin'
- Severn Lamb 0-6-2T+T 'Dougal' (ex-Longleat)

On display were:

- Morse 0-4-0
- Lister 4w 'Sludge'
- Morse 4-4w (ex-Dreamland)

The EVLR also owns the Keef rebuilt Ruston 'Cromwell' and Guest 4-6-2 'Prince William', whilst parts of the former were seen, it is understood that the Pacific is off-site for overhaul.

The railway itself is a twisting route from 'Twyford Downs' station next to the Evesham Country Park car park, to 'Evesham Vale', overlooking the Vale of Evesham and with stunning views all around. The line is in the form of a baloon loop but for the intensive running days trains terminated at Evesham Vale station and a second loco took the train back around the balloon loop, with the first engine then reversing around the loop to take up it's next duty.

This operational method mean that at any time there were two locos at Evesham Vale, one at Twyford Downs, and another somewhere in between! A network of paths around the line at the Evesham Vale end made photography very easy and with locos moving every few minutes nothing sat still for long.
